damn! I tought that I could use the cam with Windows Live Messenger but it doesn't work. The cam appears in "My Computer" but it shows only a black rectangle.

If I use Bootcamp, the cam should work, right? But not with VirtualBox?

Any Update???

Hi
i got the same issue,
somehow downloaded the drivers for the isight, saw it appearing on "my computer" for a sec and then only bing bing every 2 sec connecting and disconnecting.
I would be really great if someone found a work-around to share it here.
It appears a bit odd to me that connecting an externe logitec cam should work and not the built in isight of a macbook...

(intel MacBook, OSX10.4, VB 2, WinXP SP3)

Well maybe a little progress
I am using a MAC Book with latest version of Leopard
and VirtualBox version 2.1.4

Mac OSx is the host and Win XP Pro is the Guest

I have a little gain on Sound and video
Sound :
I selected the CORE Audio as the Hast driver and the ICH AC97 as the controller
started my Virt Machine and sound works great plays the Windows start-up tune just fine
so that is the solution for Audio

Video :
No nothing using WebEx or Yahoo IM

shut down guest and went back into the Virtual Box set up for the USB
Now enable 2.0 was already turned ON
but I did the little ADD button ( add filter ) and up poppped a menu offerring Apple iSight camera and a coupld of other choices
I selected iSught and then a filter was created

Excited ? I then started my Virt Machine and the Windows discovered the camera ! Yipee ! except it then asked for a driver
and failed. So now in my Virt Machine the isight is shwoing as a recognized device but no driver

Progress but not success so I am now on the hunt for a iSight driver for Win XP

Hope this moves the ball forward

Steve -

The MAC OS-X has the iSight drivers for Windows as Apple supplies these if you boot your mac to Windows using bootcamp
BUT - I do the installer on the WIN XP ( guest) and it says driver installed but still the windows >>system> device manager still show the Yellow !. So I am still not successful. If I try Yahoo IM it sees a Camera and the little Green light comes ON but the Picture is all black.

So get the driver from the Apple disk and see if you have better luck than me
I am on a MAC Book the newer style with large mouse pad. Latest version of Virtual box as well

Good News for anyone trying to get iSight camera to work
after much google searching I found a Virtual Box ticket # 242
open since May 2008

but at last in May 11, 2009 someone named Frank finally admitted to a bug and a fix was in work for a future release . . .

He said the VBox EHCI controller ( for USB 2 devices ) does not support isochronous transfers
therefore webcams will not work with VirtualBox

Unfortunaltely no date or committment as to when we might see a fix

My Mac OS X ver. 10.5.7, Virtual Box ver. 3.0.0 and guest O/S Windows XP Pro SP3. To date have the same problems,

1. iSight installed, recognized but activated web-cam window is black. Upon closing VB, iSight works correctly in OS X and via Bootcamp with XP Pro SP3.
2. Microphone is also having the same problem.

Had checked that I'm having the latest version of Virtual Box. So switching back to Bootcamp...what a disappointment

Good News Perhaps
Nely released version 3.0 has this line in the changelog

USB: Support for high-speed isochronous endpoints has been added. In addition, read-ahead buffering is performed for input endpoints (currently Linux hosts only). This should allow additional devices to work, notably webcams (bug #242).

I hope that everyone on this thread will give this a try as Bug #242 is the key

Has anyone had any luck with Ver 3.0 code I have not
The release notes for ver3.0 indicate that the iSight Camera (USB video ) devices
are supposed to be working and bug #232 is supposed to be fixed

Well MACBook running Leopard gives no luck
I loaded ver 3.0 of VBox and fired up my Guest Win XP Pro
and installed the Additions - no errors

iSight camera is still no go

Using Yahoo Messenger the web cam comes up and has a black screen

latest version of iSight driver from Apple still shows a Yellow ?
so "Windows" thinks the driver is not installed correctly yet Apple installer says success !

The Green light comes on and the YIM box opens (webcam) but only a BLACK picture

I have tried all the normal tricks of Devices >>isight UNCHECK and ReCheck etc to no avail

I'm trying to get video and mic working on an iMac - Vitualbox 3.1.2 - Windows 7.
I had the built in Apple iSight camera come up an it loaded XP drivers I found an all seemed OK in device manager. Then I wanted to get rid of an unknown yellow marker and figured out that it had to do with Guest additions that I then setup, after the reboot all I get when connecting to the camera is 2 errors in VBOX app.:
1.
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_INVALID_ARG (0x80070057)
Component:
HostUSBDevice
Interface:
IHostUSBDevice {173b4b44-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}
Callee:
IConsole {6375231a-c17c-464b-92cb-ae9e128d71c3}

And 2.

Result Code:

I hope some one has Ideas
