I have set up MySQL database for wordpress, I have wordpress installed, I can not use a browser on my host machine to navigate to the install.php file. How do I get a browser inside virtualbox?
My shared folder (C:/sandbox/) has 2 portable browsers (.exe) waiting to be deployed. I can not access them.
I installed a LAMP stack (ubuntu 64).
I tried to access the shared folder by using \\<my computers name>\sandbox
I am new to VB and Linux commands, I just started learning last week.
Thank you,

Re: Browser woes
To access the vm from the host, the host and guest must be in the same network, which is not the case with the default NAT setting.
Open the built-in manual (click Help in the VirtualBox Manager window) and read chapter 6 on networking, particularly 6.7 Host only networking.

Re: Browser woes
Ok, I have setup the host-only network adapter, When I ping the host from the guest (ifconfig) ping 192.168.56.1
I get ping back, so it is seeing the host. My issue is, how to I navigate to the install.php page of my wordpress that I installed on the guest machine. I have setup the database and the wp-config.php file for WP.
but where or where can I use firefox or chrome on my host machine to see the graphical interface of connecting the Database to the wordpress install?!?!
I have xampp setup from a different project and that uses localhost/wordpress to connect to xampp's WP install, not my virtualbox wordpress install.
In firefox I type: http://192.168.56.1 and hit enter, if forwards to my xampp install
http://192.168.56.1/xampp/
Confused, but not quite dazed...

Re: Browser woes
I have now installed Gnome desktop to my virtual box and I have successfully "seen" Firefox browser, but how do I navigate to the wordpress install so I can connect to the wordpress database?!
When I ran ifconfig on the guest, eth0 = 10.0.2.15, eth1 = 192.168.56.102, lo = 127.0.0.1
I tried all of these IPs in the guest Firefox browser all give back: Unable to connect:
Firefox can't establish a connection at 192.168.56.102
Firefox can't establish a connection at 10.0.2.15
Firefox can't establish a connection at 127.0.0.1
If it was speak like a pirate day I would be saying.. arrrrrrgh!

Re: Browser woes
If the host can see the guest and vice versa, that is all that VirtualBox can do for you. What happens next is a Firefox/Wordpress matter and will be exactly the same as if they were two physical machines. The networking protocols work just the same way - they cannot tell if the machines or networks are physical or virtual.

Re: Browser woes
Ask in an appropriate forum. Your question is no longer relevant for this one. I do not use Linux or Wordpress, so I couldn't help you anyway.
