Port a w 2008 server from virtual to phisical using BMR

Hi!
I currently have a virtual machine running windows 2008 server and I want to port such virtual machine to a real computer without losing anything.
I have been thinking about using the Windows Recovery Environment.
Basically, perform a complete backup of the virtual machine on an external drive, use windows 2008 install disk, select the restore option and restore such backup on the new hardware.
Did anyone ever try this? Is it reliable?
