Hello everyone!
I could really use some help. I installed Virtualbox but I can't get it to work with any VMs in this specific computer. I have it running on other computers just fine, using the same ISOs. I'm guessing that maybe this is something hardware related (maybe some BIOS setting I need to change) because other than that, I don't see what else could it be.
What happens is that the virtualbox guest window hangs all of the times. Seems like it's time related. It'll freeze up after a few seconds regardless of what I do. If I start a brand new VM without an ISO loaded, it freezes before I can chose an ISO. Or, if I'm fast enough, it freezes just after. If I start a VM with an ISO already loaded in the virtual CD, it also freezes right before any instalation begins. I tried creating VMs using different memory sizes, HD sizes, even with no HD at all. I also tried different types of operational system, all versions of Windows, even DOS. None of that matters, it always hangs a few seconds after it starts up.
I recorded a video showing what happens, but the forums aren't allowing me to post URLs since I'm a new member, so I had to add spaces: youtu . be / MYcGF1Yhf8I
System specs:
Motherboard Asus Rampage V Extreme LGA 2011-v3 X99
Intel Core I7 5820K LGA 2011 Processor
Corsair 32GB (4x8) DDR4 2400MHz Vengeance LP
VirtualBox is updated (latest version available right now). The host computer is running on Windows 7 x64, Windows is fully updated, all drivers are up to date.
I have enabled hardware virtualization on the BIOS and I know this motherboard/processor both support it. I also installed the guest addition tools package (not that I'm nowhere close to that point). So I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any idea of what might be going on here?
I really appreciate any kind of help.
Thanks!

Re: Virtualbox hangs with every VM
Pick one example VM and provide a log file for it: vight click the VM in the GUI. Select "Show Log". Save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a file. Compress that file and attach it to a message here. Make sure the VM is fully shut down before taking a log.

Re: Virtualbox hangs with every VM
Hi! Thank you for your quick response.
Two things can happen:
1) If I don't load an ISO into the virtual CD before booting and it hangs in the "Select start-up disk", once I force quit the guest window, there are no log files found when I check the log viewer. It's just empty because it freezes even before the VM starts, I guess.
2) If I load an ISO into the virtual CD, regardless of the ISO or operating system chosen, it hangs in the OS loading screen after a couple of seconds and it doesn't do anything until Windows says it's frozen and I force quit the guest. This is the log I'm attaching. It's like it just halts and nothing happens.
Thanks again!

Re: Virtualbox hangs with every VM
Where did this Win7 ISO come from? Is it genuine? If yes, have you compared MD5 checksums?

Re: Virtualbox hangs with every VM
Yes, it is genuine and I used it to install VMs in other computers (and it's the same ISO with which I installed the OS in the host machine). But like I said before, the ISO doesn't matter. I can chose whatever ISO I want, all genuines, (XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10...), the same issue happens. The issue is not related to the ISO, the problem happens even I don't chose any ISO at all.
If I start a new VM with a simple OS like DOS, it'll freeze on the "Select start-up disk" before I can even chose one.
This is really, really weird. Did you have a chance to check the video I posted? Maybe it'll make it easier to understand how it hangs even before the VM starts. I did examples with multiple VMs in the video, all of them freeze up. At around 3 minutes I show a newly created DOS VM hanging in the "Select start-up disk" window, which I believe shows how this freeze is not ISO related. Here it goes again, just in case: youtu.be / MYcGF1Yhf8I (I had to add spaces because it won't allow me to post URLs)
Thanks a lot for your help!

Re: Virtualbox hangs with every VM
I don't click offsite links, so no, I have not looked at your video. In any case I don't expect that the video will tell me what the log does.
For reasons I won't go into right now, you might like to try reverting to VirtualBox 4.3.12.

Hi!
Version 4.3.12 worked. Thank you very much for your help!
I'm just curious to what it was... Should I look into any specifics in the release notes when updating in the future?

Re: Virtualbox hangs with every VM
The relevant changes in 4.3.14 onwards have been discussed on these forums ad nauseum, I really don't care to do it again.
You can however read about some of the issues yourself in the 4.3.26 security discussion. You might like to give the test build a try (referenced in first message).
I suspect that in your case your issues were not directly caused by the security features, but by a recent Windows Update.
KB3045999

In which case the latest VBox test build apparantly works around the issue.
