Difficulty Creating Serial Port

Hi.

I'm having difficulty creating a guest serial port on a Windows 7 Pro. Guest with a Yosemite Host and the latest version of VirtualBox (4.3.26)

Im using a FTDI FT230X, which is a USB to Serial convertor

Initially I didn't have USB 2.0 enabled, but I have repeated the steps with enabled later.

I connected the usb device, from the device menu, and used these drivers here: (setup.exe version) which all seemed to install OK.

Seems I can't post URLS, sorry

www dot ftdichip dot com sash Drivers slash VCP.htm

The port is created on COM10 and if I use CoolTerm to try and connect I get an "Access Denied" message. I have tried to run as administrator as well, with the same result.

I've also tried using the /dev/tty.usbserial-DA00LHE7 device with the Mac drivers (which appears when I plug the device in), but when I set the com port to Host Device in the guest settings the guest hangs on boot and needs to be Force Quit[ed] (I get a green arrow at the top of the guest windows, stating Starting Virtual Machine. After a while I get a similar green arrow on the VirtualBox Configuration/Starting screen, detailing Staring Virtual Machine (2/2) and the progress bas is about 15% of the way along.)

Reading this tutorial here: forums dot virtualbox dot org slash view topic dot php?f=3&t=23956 it doesn't seem to directly apply, specifically mentions of "host routing" and the adding of the host driver when setting up the USB.

Can anyone please give me a pointer as to what I may be doing wrong?

Just for reference it works fine on a real Win 7 Pro machine

Steve.
