Mountain Lion Host with Leopard

Post by Jeecee »

Hi

Using VirtualBox 4.2.16, I was able to install some virtual machines (Win XP, Win 7 and Win 8); but, when I try to install other Mac virtual machines, nothing works. I'm stuck with a "terminal" style window.
I want to install at least a "Leopard" virtual machine so I can use my old scanners with my new iMac. I have the original CD/DVDs and I even made some "virtual" images just in case so I could start from my HD instead of the "real" DVD.

So easy to install "Win" machines and so hard to cope with the "Macs" ones on a Mac!?!

Thanks for your help.

Thanks

Exactly what I needed. I'll try to change my version of Virtual Box to install Snow Lepoard (although I'll try for sure Leopard or even Tiger for a better match with my scanners).

Is upgrading or changing my version of Virtual Box will allow me to use the existing virtual machines or do I have to go through new installations?

Thank again

OSX guests are not officially supported. It is rather hit and miss whether a particular version of VB will run a particular version of OSX on any particular Mac.

Thanks!

I was thinking about my other virtual machines (all Windows). Any problems upgrading Virtual Box? If the machines are genuine .vdi, everything should run normal?

Thanks again

Rolling back to a previous version of VB can have an effect on Windows guests. Some won't support Windows > Windows 7.

Since I'm with Virtual Box 4.2.16 (Win XP, win7 and Win 8.1 are working very well) and I would install VB 4.3.26 it's more "rolling ahead"; so I figure that these Win machines are fully supported in the newer version??

Thanks

If you plan to try installing any version of OS X prior to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) then you may want to hold off on using any VirtualBox releases higher then 4.3.6. OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) and 10.5.x (Leopard) don't run at all on the latest releases of VB, but Snow Leopard will.

rpmurray is correct as far as anyone can tell. One thing I did forget to mention is, even if you get a version of OSX installed that worked with your scanner on metal, that doesn'r mean it will work with an OSX guest.
