Unusable video w/ 3D accel enabled for Win8.1 G on Win7 H

I have a Windows 8.1 guest running on a Windows host. I've tried to enable 3D acceleration, but it results in some very strange graphical glitches, and an unusable experience.
I have the guest tools installed, and it's using the VBoxVideoW8.sys driver, including VBoxD3D9wddm.dll. I shut down the guest and enabled 3D acceleration, then started it. After the guest is started, I get the following:
1. Display 1 starts
2. The Virtualbox "BIOS" screen is shown.
3. The Windows loading screen is shown.
4. Display 2 appears.
5. Display 1 is orange with a couple of grey rectangles 6. Display 2 is Purple, the normal color it should be at this point
7. I Click display 1, which normally results in wait screen sliding up to reveal logon screen.
8. The orange screen slides up to reveal a black screen.
9. Typing password and pressing enter results in something that almost looks like my desktop loading. (The yellow boxes are windows sticky notes.) Clicking the start button results in a black screen.
Here are my display settings:
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Things work well without 3D acceleration, but it's a little slower than I'd like.
