How to install VirtualBox-4.3.26-98988-OSX.dmg and Windows10_TechnicalPreview_x64_EN-US_9926.iso on a JetDrive Lite130 in a MacBookAir with OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. ?
Destination cannot be set during installation, VirtualBox installs on MacintoshHD automatically, even from files on the JetDrive.

The virtual HD will be on whatever drive you decide to put it on when you create the vm. If you leave it at the default, it will go to your physical hard drive.
Even if VirtualBox will let you create the .vdi on the jetdrive, it will be a very slow vm!

Just to clarify, The VirtualBox application has to be installed on the internal HD. However, you can create virtual machines on the JetDrive if you like. You just need to change the default machines folder in the VirtualBox preferences.

To BillG: THANKS, but the VM does NOT let me choose the destination during installation, neither from the Transcend JetDrive Lite130 nor from the JetDrive 520 SSD. I have tried xxx times. It always installs on the MacintoshHD. Windows10 works under the VM on the MacHD, I have Internet access thru it, but I cannot load software or files. My problem is really that I cannot access outside drives, only virtual drives.
To loukingjnr: THANKS, how do I get into the VirtualBox preferences to change the default machines folder?

When you create a virtual machine (not when you install the OS) you create a virtual hard drive as part of the process. After you select the type of hard drive you get a page called File location and size. This is where you select the name and size of drive you want and where it is located. If you simply select create without changing anything, the file will be created in the default position on your system drive. It is much simpler to get it right here than to try to move it later.

Open VirtualBox, under the VirtualBox menu select "Preferences", in the General Settings, "Default Machine Folders" is listed with a drop down menu next to it, click on it, select Other, then navigate to the location where you want new machines to be created. It will not move VMs you've created already.
To move a VM…
