I have a Oracle Linux v6.4 Virtualbox Virtual Machine (VM) that is running on a Windows 7 host. The guest does not have any GUI "Gnome" installed, it's only a straight command-line guest VM. I have a "vi" terminal open in the guest and am wanting to paste text in a "vi" terminal I have open, that I've copied from my Windows 7 host. I can't seem to make it work. I believe the "Guest Additions" is required to allow this to work, and think I've installed it correctly, I did the "Install Guest Additions". I also made the bi-directional Shared-Clipboard setting change to the VM.
Question 1: Can copy/paste work for a "Oracle Linux" VM when no GUI like Gnome is installed?
Question 2: Is "Guest Additions" only for OS's that have a GUI? in this case something like Gnome?
Question 3: Am I correct in saying that "Guest Additions" is required to make this copy/paste action work?
Question 4: How can I verify whether I've installed "Guest Additions" and whether it's installed correctly?
Thank you in advance for any recommendations!
I'm now seeing this post: http://superuser.com/questions/42134/vi ... -clipboard and a few people said that this posted solution fixed the problem for them. I will repost to this forum once I am able to retest, I am still hoping to see what people have to say about the questions posted above.

Re: Copy/Paste from Host to Guest
The VirtualBox clipboard feature requires X being installed in the guest.
Re: Copy/Paste from Host to Guest
Thank you for the response perryg, guess I can do a work-around by just ftp'ing the file into the guest then somehow directing text within new file to where I need it. I don't want x installed on this particular guest OS.

Re: Copy/Paste from Host to Guest
Shared folders work without X so I would go that route before I would use ftp.
Re: Copy/Paste from Host to Guest
Good point, I have that shared folders setup already, I'll go that route, Thank you again!
Re: Copy/Paste from Host to Guest
Hey Guys, my Lubuntu guest cannot paste from Host browser text.
After booting again on a previuos snapshot, paste worked gain.
Would you know where to submit bug ticket ?

@icemaze, It's not a bug if you're the only one with the problem.
Minimum information needed for assistance.
To attach vbox.log: Right click the VM in the VirtualBoxGUI. Select "Show Log". Save "VBox.log" to a file. Compress that file and attach it to a message here. Make sure the VM is fully shut down beforehand.
