Re: VirtualBox, 3D acceleration & GNOME - icons are not visi
That's a false negative because VirtualBox does not use the same driver/s that OS uses. The important part is the chromium and humper.
Hopefully one day the reporting will get better.

Re: VirtualBox, 3D acceleration & GNOME - icons are not visi
I agree that using the GAs that come pre-installed is a bad idea. However, I haven't replaced them and I don't have the same problem. I wasn't planning on keeping OpenSUSE.

Did that - updated the Intel HD Graphics 4000 Display Driver using Lenovo System Update to the newest version: 9.18.10.3359 - but without any change to the behavior.Perryg wrote:Make sure that you have them up-to-date.
Why is it a bad idea? I confusedPerryg wrote: I also see that you are running the repo fork of the guest additions. Bad idea. Purge them and install the ones from your build.
Well, anyway. I uninstalled them and installed the guest additions ISO provided by the VirtualBox host application. (Is that what you meant by "the ones from your build"?). No improvement here either.
Btw, the problem only occurs when going to Activities > Show Application > All - the icons of the frequently used applications are shown (see screenshot).

I have the exact opposite behavior. The first pic I posted is with "All" selected.

This one is with "Frequent" selected. It doesn't seem anything will ever show in mine. I opened FF maybe 10 times and it still doesn't show. Bizarre.

I have a similar problem, last week after update in openSUSE tumbleweed (guest) on windows 7 (virtualbox 4.3.26), firefox yast and other programs were invisible or only showed window frames - in KDE, xfce, lxde.. After reading https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. ... 824ac65c6a I disabled 3D for guest and it's working.
Edit: I had manualy installed GA from iso that comes vith virtualbox, so it's not an issue of old GA version or some opensuse's build

Re: VirtualBox, 3D acceleration & GNOME - icons are not visi
Removing the pre-installed guest additions and installing the official guest additions resolved the issue I was having. My install of OpenSUSE did not have the /Media directory so I had to create it before installing the GAs in order to Automount Shared Folders. OpenSUSE is NOT my fav Linux distro.

Like I said above running the repo GAs is not a good idea, but I would never be a told you so.

lol well I only installed OpenSUSE to see what the OP was talking about. If I wanted to use it I would have replaced them sooner.Perryg wrote:Like I said above running the repo GAs is not a good idea, but I would never be a told you so.
OpenSUSE has too many hoops to jump through for my taste.
Just to install VLC I had to add the community repos, then the packman repos, then once installed, if you don't switch the video output for VLC to x11, VLC crashes. That was a new one on me. lol

I met this issue too. It works fine if I disable the 3D acceleration.
