Unable to install Windows 7 on OS X 10.8.5

Hey guys, having a bit of a problem here with an installation. Needed to make a VM for Windows-only software that one of the operations people at my company requires.

They're on OS X 10.8.5 and I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto her machine via version 4.3.26 of VB.

I created a VMDK for the file and mounted it, but am getting the "A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine..." notification.

Trying to look through the logs, I couldn't personally see anything jumping out at me as the cause of the error. They are attached so someone more knowledgable than myself can take a look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really hope that it isn't some glaring oversight on my part, but will just be happy if you can help me get past this.

Thank you.

How did you create the vmdk file?

Inserted the USB drive into the machine and then unmounted it through Disk Utility.

Then I used the following command as the root user to create the VMDK:
sudo VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename (file path).vmdk -rawdisk (USB location)

From there I used the root user to modify the permissions of both the USB drive and the VMDK to 777 so it would be open to the user account that I was trying to install it on.

Mounted it to SATA Port 0 and got that error. I tried SATA port 1, but nothing happens when mounted to there.

Now you've lost me. I don't do any raw disk access since I've never had a need to. I also don't see any mention of Windows being installed although based on the log it obviously has been.

One thing I did notice is the Windows 7 guest only has 18MB of VRAM assigned and needs something closer to 128MB. I'm sure someone else will come along to help. :)

When creating the VM I allocated 512MB of memory to it. Weird that it's saying that it only has 18MB. Also, it never went through the installation. The moment that I try to boot the VM it it gives the error.

Also, I'm not greatly familiar with creating VMs. I've only successfully installed Ubuntu on another OS X host for the purpose of running a multicast repeater for the office (needed the users on wireless to be able to connect to the Apple TVs on ethernet across VLANs). This was the only method that I was able to come across when researching the process of getting Windows onto OS X from a USB drive.

If you know of a better way of creating a proper boot file to install Windows 7 onto the OS X host, I'm more than game for it. It just needs to be able to boot from USB, as the laptop doesn't have a CD drive and we don't currently have an external. I have a Windows 7 installation disk and a Windows tower with CD drive for creation of the boot drive.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually I said VRAM not RAM. Under the display settings.

Since you have a Windows install disk, and you have a tower with a CD drive, you could create an .iso from the install disk and copy the .iso to the machine you want to have Windows 7 on and install it like a normal guest. Unless it is an OEM install disk from Dell, etc. They cannot be used to create a working Windows guest.

I was able to find one of our employees that had a personal external CD drive that I am now borrowing.

Thank you for helping with it. Should this not resolve the matter somehow I'll post again.
