Windows 8.1, Host Only, Cant access webserver

Post by mattgolding »

Hi I have a simple setup of a Windows 8.1 Host and a Guest running Windows 2012. I have a web server in the Guest machine which is running just fine. I can ping between the host and the guest. I have turned off the firewall on both host and guest. However when I try and access the Guests webserver (via IP) I get an error

Network Error (tcp_error)
A communication error occurred: "No route to host"

I have tried another guest VM on the same Host only network and it is able to access the webserver just fine. Can anyone think of what might be blocking my host machine from accessing the webserver on the guest machine?

I did just try and access the guest webserver via computer name and that did work.

Anyone have nay ideas on how to get it working via IP address?

The only possible reason I can think of is that you are not using the right IP address. When you specify a name, the system has to resolve that to an IP before it can do anything. (A name is of no use to the networking protocols). It is obviously resolving to right one if it works.
