Hi everyone I'm currently having some trouble trying to install virtual box on the latest win10 technical preview build 10049
Trying to install normally fails with just a fatal install error and the installer tells me installation has ended prematurely
Enabling logging while trying to install and looking through the log brings me to an error here
Installing INF file "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\network\netlwf\VBoxNetLwf.inf" ...
Install failed, hr (0x80040154)
VBoxNetCfgWinInstallComponent failed, hr (0x80040154)
Installation failed, rolling back installation set ...
I have tried manually extracting all of the files out of the installer and right clicking and installing VBoxNetLwf.inf with alleged success from the operating system, but attempting to restart my installation at that point doesn't yield me any success, and the installer still fails in the same way
Please advise.

Take a quick search through the forum, others have run into the same problem.
Windows 10 is still in development and Virtualbox wishes to wait for the target to stop moving before trying to hit it.

Re: Error Installing VirtualBox on Win10 10049
I have searched through the forums, and Google. I couldn't find any recent threads with this much technical information targeting this operating system. VirtualBox has worked for me on previous builds. I will go about trying it on a different system running the same OS and see if I encounter an error and report back.

Virtual box has cleanly installed on my other Win10 build 10049 machine without error. Leading me to believe it's not a problem with the OS itself but something specifically wrong with this machine. Is there a way to completely remove all previous virtual box drivers and components?

Re: Error Installing VirtualBox on Win10 10049
That is really a Windows question, not a VirtualBox one. Installation or removal of VirtualBox (or any other application) is a Windows installer operation and any changes made are made to the Windows registry of the Windows OS.
I have never met anybody who really knows how that all works. It is a favourite topic for would-be Windows gurus and there is plenty of dodgy advice available on the Internet (and plenty of dodgy "registry cleaners"). I usually do a clean install of the OS. I find if faster and more reliable.

VirtualBox can be installed on Win10 by unchecking "VirtualBox Bridged Networking" in installer.
