Issues with VB and Win 10 latest build

Was running Genymotion which uses VB. Am running Windows 10 Technical Preview and its been working fine.

On the latest Win 10 update - to build 10049, Genymotion stopped working. Looking a bit more into the issue it turns out VB broke. Getting a error 0x80004005 when trying to host adapter.

I've read a few threads about issues with VB and Windows 10 and have tried the following.

Uninstalled Genymotion and VB (Deleted all VB folders)
Installed VB 4.3.12 - install fails, gets to about 80% and then rolls back. No logs generated.
Installed VB 4.3.16 and .18 - install succeeds but when running VB nothing happens. It doesnt even open.
Installed .26 and .27 - installs fine and opens, but when trying to add host adapter I get the same error.
Also tried 5.0 Beta 1 - same error
Failed to create the host network interface.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)


Any ideas - it was working fine pre 10049 build. Anyone else having these issues on this build?

Personally I have given up on explaining why VirtualBox can't auto-magically morph its own code to resolve every code change in Windows 10 Techinical Preview.

I wasn't asking if VB could morph its on code!

Am I the only one having this issue, or is it something with the latest Windows build?

I doubt you are the only one. There are numerous posts about the 10049 build if you'd care to look? In theory, users are supposed to search the forum to see if others are having the same problem they are before posting another post about the same thing.

Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way.

edit: Windows 10 TP (build 10049) runs fine as a guest.

Going to see if I can go back to the previous build but I suspect it might mean a Win 10 rebuild.

A word of warning. You must expect this kind of issue when using an alpha/beta host OS. There is no way to keep up with the additional source code changes and probably will not work properly until after the official release of the host OS.

I realise that no one reads these disclaimers but I quote from the download page for w-10

"Remember, trying out an early build like this can be risky. That's why we recommend that you don't install the preview on your primary home or business PC. Unexpected PC crashes could damage or even delete your files, so you should back up everything."

Gone back to Win 10 build 10041 and the problem has gone away

Windows 10 is now on build 10162 and nearly final, apparently this is not a Windows 10 issue, or at least something that isn't going to be "fixed" in Windows 10 as the change is most likely intentional.

E_FAIL trying to create host-only adapter - prevents Genymotion from working, as well as vagrant, as well as anything else I guess.

Also tried Virtual Box 5 RC2 and have the same issue.

I was able to get genymotion working in Windows 10.

It is failing trying to create the host-only adapter, so you must do it yourself manually, and then it will use that.

- Run virtualbox as administrator
- Go to File -> Preferences -> Network -> Host Only Networks
- Add a new network. IP address 192.168.1.201, mask 255.255.255.0. Go to DHCP server and enable it. IP address 192.168.1.100, mask 255.255.255.0, lower bound 192.168.1.101, upper bound 192.168.1.199
- Save all and exit
- Now run genymotion.

It works!

What version of VB did you use? I've tried the latest version but still get the error when trying to add a host adapter.

me too with the official release build 1240 win 10 home 64bit got this:
"failed to get the oracle_VBoxNetLwf(sun_VBoxNetFlt) component, error (0x1)"...
with the very latest vb 5.0.2 and the latest test builds 5.0.3.102224
