Cannot Ping on Host only network

Hi,
I am running ubuntu virtual box virtual machine on a windows host. I have also created two linked clones of the ubuntu VM. All three VMs are set to Host only mode with static ip assigned as follows.
VM1 - 192.168.56.101
VM2 - 192.168.56.102
VM3 - 192.168.56.103
Host - 192.168.56.1
But when i tried to ping each other VMs, from any one VM to host and from host to VM, I get error message Destination host unreachable.
I checked the VirtualBox Host-only Network adapter under control-panel->Network and Internet->Network Connections. It is enabled.
I also tried removing the adapter and re-installing it. Still the same problem.
Can anyone clarify my doubt? If you have any documents to setup host -only network, please do share. Thank you.

That is not expected to work. If you want the vms to communicate with each other, put them in an internal network, or try the experimental NAT service (See Chapter 6.4).

My intention is to communicate with each other vms and also with the host. Isn't it possible in host only network?
