VboxSharedClipboardClass error message

Since upgrading to the latest version of VirtualBox for Mac, I have been getting the following error message each time I shut down my guest OS (Win XP Pro): VboxSharedClipboardClass

It says it cannot end this process, and then counts down before eventually killing the process and completing the shutdown (unless I end the process manually).

(The shared clipboard function has never worked in any version of VirtualBox, and the latest version is no exception).

Any ideas what is causing this, and how can I stop it ?

Chris.

Please read the following: Minimum information needed for assistance. The most important at this point is a zipped VBox.log of your guest.

That's because you don't have it enabled in the first place. VM Settings, General, Advanced, Shared Clipboard. Set it to 'Bidirectional'. Don't bother with Drag'n'Drop.

Now, I didn't see something glaring, but a couple of things:
- Your computer has 2 CPUs, you assigned them both to your guest. Lower it to 1 CPU for your guest.
- Your Guest Additions are not up to date (4.3.24). Update them to 4.3.26, since you already have the GA CD already mounted.

See if the above change the situation.

I should have mentioned that a "nice" VBox.log is one where you start the guest, observe the problem, shutdown the guest normally, and then go for the log. BTW, if you had zipped it, it would be 1/4 of it's size.

Chris.
Actually the shared clipboard has worked ever since the feature was available. You just can't use it to transfer files. Which it never claimed.

Hi Socratis,

Updating the Guest Additions didn't help, but switching to 1 CPU did.
Problem sorted, many thanks. (I would never have figured that out !!!)

I had switched off the shared clipboard just in case that was causing the problem.
Just tried re-enabling it, and copying/pasting between Host/Guest now works within a document.
However, it still doesn't allow copying a complete file within MacOS then pasting it within Windows (thus avoiding the need to use the shared folder). Is there another setting which allows this ?

Chris.

OK thanks.
We must have posted at the same time.

Presumably that means the Drag-N-Drop feature is broken ?

Chris.

Drag n Drop is still being implemented. For now it only works from a host to a Linux guest. Which it states in the user manual.

Looks like I spoke too soon.

I am starting to get the same error message again on shutting down my Win XP Pro guest OS. It doesn't always do it, and it makes no difference whether the shared clipboard is enabled or not.

Log attached after a session when the problem manifested.

Chris.

Since it's not reproducible, even by you, and since no one else is reporting the problem that you're facing, I'm leaning towards something being wrong with your specific setup. Try to think what are the out of the ordinary things that you may have done to your system. Observe the circumstances under which this problem occurs; another app being launched before, time that has elapsed since you started, etc.

One thing that I noticed is that you're running the 32-bit version of VirtualBox, which is quite unusual in this day and age. See if you can boot your iMac into 64-bit and if the problem exhibits itself in that scenario. Your log shows nothing out of the ordinary that I can think of, except of course the fact that you have:
00:00:01.373675 Shared clipboard mode: Off

Between that level of OS X and v4.3.26, Apple deprecated a lot of "stuff", like StartupItems, and VirtualBox had to make changes.
Your system may be caught in betwixt the changes.
Perhaps, using the Uninstall Tool for VirtualBox (on the install .dmg) may get your system out of the middle
