Alladin Hasp key not working in WinXP

Hi,
i have Windows XP SP1 installed as guest OS on Linux Mint OS. My problem is that i can't get to recognize my alladin usb hasp key, even if i add a specific usb filter with name and/or vendor and product id.
Anyone having an idea on how to solve this?
Thanks in advance,
Giannis

loukingjr thanks for the response.
Yes of course there is a driver. I can send them if you want by mail (I am a new member here and it is not allowed to me to post u r l s). I already installed the drivers but nothing

I don't have the device so I don't need the driver.
I should have asked if you had the driver. I actually did a quick search and found there was one for XP SP2 in 2005. I'm not sure if you can make it work in a virtual machine. maybe someone else knows.

I have the opinion that it has nothing to do with drivers. I think it is a usb port/hub recognozing problem for hasp keys. I even added a specific usb filter with all the info i got using lsusb from my linux host but nothing happend.
So is there any idea?

Hi,
you are out of luck.
Protection software often protects against running in a VM. Alladin is one of it.
I also had learned this the hard way.

If you can't run the software without the dongle then I doubt they care what kind of PC you run the software on.
I think it's more likely that the dongle will be very finicky about timing and hardware APIs, to make it less easy to hack. That would have the side effect of making it not like high latency environments, e.g. VMs.

The software is running only if the usb hasp is pluged in and recognized by the OS.
So far the conclusion is that it cant be done (get it working).
Thanks anyway for the responses!

Hi,
just want to clarify.
I have seen many different kinds of "license protection" tools from their SDK point of view.
Most offer a selectable set of restrictions. Not running in a VM is one of them.
So your software vendor decided to block VMs.

I know of folks who run USB-hasp-secured programs in Virtualbox guests - it is possible.
Are we sure the guest is actually grabbing the USB hasp properly and that it's the software choking? Could the guest just not have a filter correctly configured yet (or over-configured), or the required restarts not completed yet? Maybe something in the .vbox file or the log would help? (Wouldn't know what to look for myself; better heads than mine could see something.)

Guest is not grabbing USB HASP at all, although I did install the latest drivers of that particular HASP
Could the guest just not have a filter correctly configured yet (or over-configured)?
I added filters with various combinations each time (from zero conf to all fields conf, with data from lsusb command), then restarted, then pluged in the usb HASP, but nothing!

Looked at log file, but nothing came up...Alladin and/or HASP are not present

giannis1277, I still haven't seen any logs or other information that could help us help you. Here's what I need:
- Compressed VBox.log of a complete guest session.
- Output of the command: VBoxManage list usbhost
- Output of the command: VBoxManage showvminfo "<Your_VM>". Replace <Your_VM> with the actual name of your guest.
