G'day,
I am trying to run a 64bit Virtual Box Linux guest within a Virtual Box VM (4.3.20) that is running within 64bit Windows 8.1 guest that is itself running within Virtual Box VM 4.3.26 that is running on an OSX 10.9 host. The host is a 2014 Mac Book Air.
I also tried using 4.3.26 on the inner most Virtual Box installation.
(The reason for the extra level of indirection is that I am trying to write some instructions about setting up boot2docker for Windows users but I don't have access to a native Windows host).
When I try to create VMs within the inner most Virtual Box instance, I am not given the opportunity to create a 64bit guest (the only options listed are 32bit guests).
Is there a reason why this can never work? Are there any things I need to do to allow it to work?

Nested virtualization is not supported.
So you can be happy if you get 32bit guests working.
