How to extend volume c on windows 7?

Hi all

The following process did work with Windows 8, but not with Windows 7.
I'm not able to see the unallocated diskspace with the disk manager on the windows-os after extend the vdi on my mac.

*****
A. Stop Virtual Machine and VirtualBox

B. Enter following to extend the vdi:

[root@local:~]$ VBoxManage modifyhd "/Users/root/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 8/Windows 8.vdi" --resize 51200
0%...10%...20%...30%...40%...50%...60%...70%...80%...90%...100%
[root@local:~]$

C. Start VirtualBox and Virtual Machine

D. Extend the Volume C with the Disk Manager GUI (you will see the unallocated diskspace in black):

- right click on the Volume C
- click on "Extend Volume"

Does anyone know how to proceed to see the unallocated diskspace in Windows 7, that i'm able to extend the volume c ?

(On the images you see that virtualbox shows the vdi with 50GB, but the diskmanager in Windows 7 shows the disk only with 25GB.)

When you ran the command to expand your Windows 7 guest did you see the progress as you did with Windows 8?

I think the issue is that the Windows 7 disk is a basic disk and not a dynamic disk. FIRST: Back up your VM. Then RIGHT click the area next to the volume name that says DISK 0 (or whatever disk the OS is on, your pic is too small to see) and select convert to dynamic. You will have to acknowledge the warnings about the conversion dynamic. After that the disk should extend.

Alternately download one of the many disk partitioning softwares like GPARTED, boot to the ISO and use it to extend the drive.
