Things I did, changes I made:
VRAM back on 12MB
RAM: changed from 1024MB to 2048MB
Processor: changed from 1 to 2
Did an integrity check, no errors found...
Now I'm running in compatibility mode and I can install without problems.

You're running what in compatibility mode? You mean you are running VirtualBox in XP mode? And that fixed KDE installs?Stievie Gonzales wrote: Now I'm running in compatibility mode and I can install without problems.
Makes zero sense. Less than zero sense.

I can only tell you what I've done....
I'm trying everything to make it work.
Maybe the changing of RAM was enough, or the changing of VRAM back to 12MB did the trick, or maybe changing from 1 processor to 2 processors.
I don't know maybe I should have tried everything step by step.
Will make a new machine with LM 17.1 KDE like I did in the beginning and then change all the settings step by step.
One more question, 1024Mb should be more then enough for KDE right?

Re: Problems installing KDE distro's on VirtualBox
1. 12mb VRAm - 1024mb RAM - 1 processor - Chipset: PIIX3 - Usb tablet - I/O APIC enabled - Storage: PIIX4 ------ NOT WORKING (Installer crashed)
2. 12mb VRam - 1024mb RAM - 2 processors - Chipset: PIIX3 - Usb tablet - I/O APIC enabled - Storage: PIIX4 ------ NOT WORKING (Installer crashed)
3. 12mb VRam - 1024mb RAM - 2 processors - Chipset: PIIX3 - Usb tablet - I/O APIC enabled - Storage: PIIX3 ------ NOT WORKING (Installer crashed)
4. 12mb VRam - 2048mb RAM - 1 processor - Chipset: PIIX3 - Usb tablet - I/O APIC enabled - Storage: PIIX4 ------ WORKING (Installer not crashed)
Only change I made to fix it is changing RAM from 1024 to 2048mb
So I'm guessing the LM 17.1 KDE distro needs more RAM then the other ones.
Although I found this on there website:
"System requirements:
512MB RAM (1GB recommended for a comfortable usage)."

Re: Problems installing KDE distro's on VirtualBox
As I thought running the LM 17.1 LiveCD in Compatibility Mode had nothing to do with your issue. Having the guest set to 2048MBs however was the issue. I can run the LM KDE guest in 1024MB once installed but, it will not install with less than 2048MBs (maybe a little less). What that means is someone with only 4GBs RAM may not be able to install the KDE version of Mint as a guest.
Interesting.

Re: Problems installing KDE distro's on VirtualBox
I can second that! Doubleclick the 'Install Linux Mint' icon -> wait very long -> installer crashes
Host: Linux Mint 17.1 KDE 64-bit
Virtualbox: 4.3.24
Guest: Linux Mint 17.1 KDE 64-bit
Changing 1024 MB to 2048 MB did the trick.

Re: Problems installing KDE distro's on VirtualBox
Thanks guys, I had the same problem with both Linux Mint 17 KDE and 17.2-RC KDE.
Increasing guest memory to 1500 MB was enough for me!

This is it! After increasing memory to 2048 to Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3 everything started to work. SOLVED!
