Capturing LAN traffic on Linux guest

Post by Nachi »

I have a win 7 host running Ubuntu linux on Virtualbox. I have configured the network setting to be NAT. The host is connected to the LAN through ethernet and in promiscous mode it is able to monitor all the traffic in the LAN, I want to forward all this traffic to the Linux guest, but I am not able see any message from the LAN on the guest machine. Can someone help me with this?

And moreover when I ping the host from the guest VM it works fine whereas I am not able to reach the guest(Linux) from the host (win7).

NAT is the default setting because it is the best solution for the average user who simply wants Internet access from the guest.

If your host is on a LAN and you want the guest to behave like your LAN machines, use bridged mode.
