virtualbox host only network, ethernet device problem

i need some help troubleshooting this problem. it started after i installed VB with the network adapter. thanks

problem:
-no internet connection.

when:
-ethernet device diagnostic states: "windows could not automatically bind the ip stack to the network adapter".
-ipconfig lists devices: virtualbox host-only network, tunnel adapter isatap.{…}. ethernet adapter is missing.
-problem possibly occurs after not using internet for some time.
-enabled network connections: ethernet, virtualbox host-only network

not when:
-restarting computer restores internet connectivity.
-ipconfig lists devices: ethernet adapter ethernet, virtualbox host-only network, tunnel adapter isatap.{45…}, tunnel adapter teredo tunneling pseudo-interface, tunnel adapter isatap.{F8…}.

Sometimes this just happens, even if the computer just started up.

I disabled the virtualbox host-only device but the problem still sometimes happens. Any ideas what it could have changed?

OK, here's what you can try:

1. Completely uninstall VirtualBox. Do not worry about your VMs (if you have any), they do not get deleted. Then observe your host. Is the behavior the same or not?
2. Install VirtualBox without the host-only adapter and without the bridged adapter. Then observe your host. Is the behavior the same or not?
3. Uninstall VirtualBox and re-install it, this time with the bridged adapter only. Then observe your host. Is the behavior the same or not?
4. Uninstall VirtualBox and re-install it, this time with the host-only and the bridged adapter. Then observe your host. Is the behavior the same or not?
