w2k guest boot failure

I have a w2k guest session that I have been using for a long time. This session was originally created under a Mint 4 host using vbox v 1.4 as I recall. I have since used the w2k.vdi file in PCLinuxOS under the new 1.6 and it works fine. But when I try using the same w2k.vdi file under Mint 5 or Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64 the w2k boot fails with the BSOD saying it can't access the boot device.

edit: I had cloned the w2k.vdi file at one point for backup and I just tried that file. Again, it works in PCLinuxOS but fails in Unbuntu and Mint.

I have the same problem!

That's what I'm trying to find out.

My guess: your new VM has the PIIX4 setting enabled by default, whereas the old one used PIIX3. Windows will crash when you change the IDE controller (even if only slightly). Go to the advanced settings of the VM to change it.

Thanks!
