Issue with guest screen resize on Windows7 64bit, AMD FX+ATI

Hi
I've installed the last 4.3.26 on my Windows 7even 64bit setup, running AMD FX six-core and an ATI HD5450 with last Catalyst drivers
In the VM I've installed Ubuntu 64bit 14.10
Since the beginning, so before I've installed (succesfully) the guest drivers, I had the guest O.S screen started and automatically resized at every screen mode update (i.e splash scree, login page and desktop) to a very very small size, see the attached picture.
After having installed the guest drivers, then if I try to resize the windows, it immediately get resized back to the very small size. The only way to use the guest O.S is to maxmize the windows, doing so the guest O.S is resized correctly to the maximized windows size, so I guess the drivers are ok (and the installation went fine)
I've searched the forum, but I couldn't find anything usefull
I'm not sure which kind of logs I can provide, but feel free to ask
