Network connection to Debian VBox

Hi all,
great job with the Virtual Box! I really like it, even if I'm quite new with it.
I use Windows 7 with the latest Virtual Box and therefore have installed Debian on it.
Depending where I am, I'm in a IP area 192.168.x.x or 10.50.x.x. I now wanted to add a "Host only" network connection to my box, because as I understood is, that it's an independent network (windows host <-> debian vbox) within the physical network?! My problem is only, that all the introductions I followed didn't work for me. Not sure if I did something wrong.
What did I do?
- In VBox I selected Adapter 1 to be Host-only using "Virtual Box Host only adapter" and Promiscuous Mode "Allow from any VM and Host" and "Cable connected" (I translated this from German)
- For network adapter I configured a static IP 10.0.0.11 and subnet mask 255.0.0.0 over the bwindows adapter config
If I now try to connect via putty, this gives me the error, that the ip was not found. Typing "ifconfig" in the Virtual box does not show me an ip for the debian os.
Could you please help me, how I get the Host-only work? Is this the network connection you recommend to use? I want to run apache, php and mysql on the Virtual Box to develope a web application, My IDE (phpStorm) is located on my windows host and therefore I need to have the source code in phpStorm on the one hand and on the Virtual Box on the other hand.
Thanks and kind regards,
Dirk
