I have 2 Virtual machines on my computer. One is windows 98 and the other is Windows XP. Windows 98 runs fine, starts up with no problems, and runs. Windows XP wont start because VT-x is disabled. But I have it enabled obviously, because Windows 98 works fine. The host is running on Windows 7 and I am running as an administrator. How do I fix this

you apparently forgot again...
Right click the VM in the GUI. Select "Show Log". Save "VBox.log" to a file. Compress that file and attach it to a message here. Make sure the VM is fully shut down before taking a log.

Make sure that the following interjection doesn't stop you from providing that log file, if you need to continue this conversation. Helpers can get a bit irritated when they keep asking for minimal diagnostic info and keep not getting it.

I don't follow that logic, as Win98 doesn't require VT-x. However, neither does XP if configured similarly.

If Win98 runs on this host then you didn't enable VT-x (implicitly or explicitly) in that VM's settings.

VT-x is required for 64bit guests, all Win8 and later Windows guests, any guest where CPUs>1, and any guest which explicitly enables it.

In your case VT-x is enabled (for one of these reasons) in the XP guest, but can't be used because it's disabled in the host PC BIOS.

Oh sorry. I tried to do that but my Norton just expired and now I cannot even download the Microsoft security essentials online because I have a zillion addons, viruses, and malware, rendering my computer pretty much inoperable.

Also sorry for the lack of information, I originally didn't know how to do that. As soon as I can, I will do that. But the viruses are SO bad that these popups are everywhere and if I try to do anything, I have a BSOD. Thanks for the help though. Sorry

OK, so I have gone to the HP support forms and everything, but all I need to do is enable VT-x. I know my PC is compatible (http://ark.intel.com/products/41493/Int ... 66-MHz-FSB) and my BIOS can do it, but when my computer has the screen and only says this:

Esc for boot menu F12 for setup

F11 for Diagnostics F10 for System Recovery


Do I go into Setup? Or do I just give up? I am so sorry about this, I am just a little new and unknowing about this.
Oh, and about the viruses, well, one BSOD leads to another, and I get a copy of Windows 10.

Sorry, but we can't substitute for HP help. HP - or the manual that came with your PC - can tell you how to enable VT-x. I am using an HP desktop myself right now, and I had no problem finding the virtualization options in a security submenu in the BIOS.

And we STILL do not have a log file: with the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Okay, I did a clean install of Windows 10, so all the stuff is gone. I just got some stuff back, so it's OK. However, Simcity 4 doesn't work
I don't have VT-x enabled, and worried that Setup in the BIOS is something that changes settings or deletes stuff and can't be exited until you're done.
I have not gotten any "You need VT-X" warnings but I only have the following:
MS-DOS 6.22
Windows 1.1
Windows 3.1
Windows 95
Windows 2000

The manual that came with my PC (which I got in 2010) is long gone, and thin. I can't find a PDF of it either.
I have gone to the HP support forums and found out the following:

-There are a lot of rude people out there
-Big companies make things hard on purpose for the consumer because they know they'll make their money anyway
-Pretty much nobody has ever bought this model of PC except for me (I cannot find anyone who even owns the Pavilion p600 series, let alone the p series.)

Most BIOS's are the pretty much the same, so what I'm asking here is, do I go into Setup or leave it alone. I will try Windows XP and f it doesn't work I will provide a log file.
