Unable to create vm when Virtualbox runs in user mode

Post by surendrand »

Hi,
I was running VirtualBox in my laptop and I was a Admin User.
But due to recent policy changes Admin rights revoked from Windows. Now running on user mode I am unable to create a virtualmachine in VirtualBox. I am able to create new vm, but when I try to start my VM I am getting error as attached. How can I resolve this
Should I be an admin user to run VirtualBox?

Regards,
Surendran

Running in user mode is fine, but running as the wrong user is not so fine.

For example, installing as user "Administrator" and then running as user "SurendranD" can cause problems. The best solution would be to reinstall the application as the correct user, but running the installer using "Run as administrator" so that device drivers can be installed.

p.s. the startup log is not as useful as the VM log (VBox.log).

Besides the policy changes about the admin user, I believe there may have been an update to the Symantec antivirus/firewall that you have installed. Since you don't describe the exact error, I'm going to assume that you're getting a "E_FAIL (0x80004005)" message, but I could be wrong. You're running 4.3.20 and VirtualBox is up to 4.3.26, so take a look at these discussions: Can you be a little bit more specific about the exact error that you're getting?
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Looks the problem is due to Norton antivrus update.
Uninstalled and Updated to the latest version 4.3.26, problem got resolved.

Thanks,
