Hi there
I'm newbie here and this is my first time using VM's, so please be patient with me.
I installed Virtual Box 4.3.22 r98236 on my pc (fx 6300, 16gb ram, win7 x64 ult) in order to run ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS 64-bit.
That's because I got an old usb scanner (Espon Perfection 610) since 1999 which runs ok on ubuntu when boot from usb drive.
But I don't know what should I do to get the scanner detected.
Any sugestion, advice or tip is always welcome.
Thanks in advance.-

Re: Can't detect usb scanner
Take a look at a previous post of mine ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=66463#p315306 ) and follow the steps. Report at which point there was a failure. All points may not apply in your case.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Re: Can't detect usb scanner
Hi, thanks for your answer.
Done!
I uninstalled VirtualBox 4.3.22 r98236 then installed VirtualBox 4.3.26 r98988 and its Extension pack.
2. Make sure that USB 2.0 is enabled in your VM settings.
Done!
Usb 2.0 (EHCI) driver is enable in VM settings.
3. Create a USB filter in your guest settings while the device is plugged in the host. Delete all values except Name, VendorID and ProductID. Check also ********* to make sure that you have the numbers correct.
Done!
Name: EPSON Perfection610 [0001]
Vendor ID: 04B8
Product ID: 0103
4. Unplug the device.
Done!
5. Start your guest (the one that you applied the filter to). Let it start completely. Log in if you have to.
Done!
6. Plug your device. The filter should capture it and pass control to your guest. You might get a "New hardware found" wizard on the host, that's normal.
Done!
I got a "New Hardware Found" wizard on windows 7.
7. If the device shows up, but as unavailable, "eject" it from your host (if you can), but leave it plugged in. It should show up as available.
The device shows up as "captured", but still undetected or shown as not connected. 8. If the device shows up in your host and is not captured by the filter, either the filter is incorrect, or there might be a problem with your filter installation.
The device shows up as "captured", but still undetected or shown as not connected. 9. Are you by any chance using a USB 3.0 port?
Done!
No, I'm using a usb 2.0 port despite my motherboard has usb 3.0 ports.
10. Is the VirtualBox USB Driver installed in your host? Make sure your host didn't silently reject non-MS drivers (Google for Driver Signature Enforcement).
Done!
VirtualBox USB is shown at windows device manager. 11. If on a Linux host, are you a member of the 'vboxusers' group?
Done!
No, I'm running windows 7 host.
12. If on a Linux host, run "sudo update-usbids".
Done!
No, I'm running windows 7 host.
13. Check out these two Windows-specific ways to troubleshoot potential driver installation issues:
a. USB not working
b. SOLVED: Failed to access the USB subsystem on Windows 7 host
c. Remove Driver Filters to Resolve Device Manager Errors on Windows 7
I will check them later.
14. Post the output of the following commands:
VBoxManage list usbhost
VBoxManage showvminfo "Your_Virtual_Machine_Name"
Where should I run and/or write those commands?
1. Make sure that the Extension Pack is installed on the host. The same version as VirtualBox.socratis wrote: Finally, this is my typical USB laundry list. Not all of the steps may apply in your case. Follow it and report back.
