Can't acces a USB to Serial converter

Post by digitalwiz »

I recently upgraded to VB 4.3.24 and now my Linux virtual machines can't access the Prolific Technology USB to serial converter. I've installed the VB extensions and the guest additions. What am I missing.

Thanks, Doug

First of all, there is a 4.3.26 that came out today, you might want to try that one. But, you mentioned that you installed the Extension Pack and the Guest Additions (the latter don't matter for USB support). What you didn't mention was a USB filter for your USB->serial. Did you create one?

Yep! I even deleted and recreated the filter on the theory that it had somehow been corrupted.

Take a look at a previous post of mine ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=66463#p315306 ) and follow the steps. Report at which point there was a failure. All points may not apply in your case.

Thanks Socratis for pointing me in the right direction. The solution by nayasis back in 2011 worked for me. But I gotta' say, I'm surprised (and disappointed) that such a relatively simple solution hasn't been folded into the installation script by now.
