I am a bit stuck. I have used VurtualBox on this computer before, but now I cannot even start to install any client operating system. I have tried versions
4.2.2 thru 4.3.24 and get the same error:

So now I cannot even get to
where you boot up a OS image disk to start an install.
Tried;
windows xp SP1
windows vista basic
windows vista home premium
windows vista business
windows vista Ultimate
linux Kali
I don't think all these install disks are corrupted, so there...

I have used VMBox on this computer and OS before; I need a clue!

VirtualBox Manager-- Machine>Settings>System>[Acceleration tab] is grayed out.
I tried to create a new guest machine and didn't even reach where a OS disk would
be read; The error occured and there was no disk in the optical drive. Therfore
this error occures regardless of what OS one would like to install.

Your CPU does not support VT-x. So you can only install 32bit guests. Except, Windows >7 (32bit) require VT-x, some modern Linux 32bit versions may require it as well such as Kali (not sure).
I think you might have to disable VT-x/AMD-V in the System>Acceleration tab in the VirtualBox Manager settings for the guests but it shouldn't be enabled, or should be grayed out. Not sure.

Nope. Because the CPU doesn't support VT-x. That's why I thought it might be greyed-out.

I'm running into this same issue. I have 64-bit Windows 7 and have been running Virtualbox with 64-bit VM's for a while now. As of this week I now get this error and I only see 32-bit VM's as an option. Did a windows update do something, because that's the only other thing that's happened on my computer.

Update: I found a way around the problem after a few hours. I had to boot into the bios -> disable virtualization -> finish booting up fully. Reboot back into bios > re-enable virtualization -> finish booting up again. The only thing that I can think of is a windows update boinked a setting somewhere and this reset those settings.

Microsoft has been releasing faulty updates recently so maybe. Your problem is different however because the original poster's CPU has no VT-x support to turn on or off.

After chasing my own tail for quite a while I stumbled upon what may be a solution; At least I have
been able to open up one guest OS. So here goes:

SOLUTION so far...
A file edit appears to solve this problem.
C:\Users\[User_Name]\VirtualBox VMs\[Guest_OS]\[Guest_OS.vbox]

Edited script; <HardwareVirtEx enabled="false" exclusive="false"/>
This seems to have worked, I was able to open up a guest OS
of Windows Vista Ultimate.
