Windows 7 Guest on Windows 8.1 Host - USB Capture

I am running Virtual Box 4.3.24r98716 on a Windows 8.1 host and am trying to capture a USB device through to the Windows 7 Home Pro guest (with VM extensions). I have tried all sorts of tricks including filters (the device is seen and a filter created), but with no luck. The VM devices menu shows the device, but when I select it nothing happens (although I do occasionally get a "device busy") message.
Not sure what other information would be pertinent here, but any pointers would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

Andy, assuming the USB filter you created is correct and the "device" is not USB 3.0, you have to unplug the device, then start the guest, then plug in the device for it to be captured by the guest.

No luck
My process has basically been:
1. Create a filter either by letting VB discover the settings or by using USBDevViewer.exe
2. Shut down VM
3. Remove USB device
4. Start VM
5. Insert USB device
6. Both wait for it to capture and force capture by selecting the device from the VM's devices menu
The devices menu sees the devices but I just can't seem to get them to actually connect.
I have tried several different USB drives and a Smartphone (which should show as a USB drive). Guest additions are installed.
Any other thoughts?

In the filter that you created in VirtualBox, make sure that you delete all the values, except VendorID and ProductID. See if that fixes it.
