OS X 10.6.3 on 10.10: using VM to hardware calibrate monito

Hi I've installed 10.6.3 on a brand new Mac Mini running Yosemite.
I did this because I discovered that my Eizo monitor's calibration software does not work on OS X, but it does with 10.6.
I work with images and need to be able to calibrate about once a month or so.
Wasn't too difficult to get the the VM running.
Now, however, I'm having a having a lot of trouble getting the VM to recognise the monitor's USB connection.
Visually, the monitor is connected via an HDMI cable, so that's not a problem at all.
What I'm talking about is the USB connection from the monitor to the Mac Mini, which allows the calibration to happen - it's a cable that sends information from the calibrator and monitor to the Mac Mini, which the Mac Mini uses to adjust the internal brightness and colour balance of the monitor.
I am new to Virtualbox and not at all technically minded, but I can't find a similar problem here.
Is there a way to assign a USB port to the virtual machine, so it is able to send/receive this information to/from the monitor?
If you could keep answers as simple as possible, and make no assumptions of any knowledege on my part, that would be great – I've been using Virtual Box for less than 24 hours.
Many thanks in advance.
