I'm running a Windows XP VM on Windows 8.1.
I can't figure out how to permanently keep the mouse cursor within the VM window. The VM cursor works fine within a limited range, but as soon as it nears the edge of the window, the default Windows 8 cursor takes over and I can no longer use the VM. It's like I am moving both cursors together: the default cursor is invisible within the VM window, but continues to accept mouse movements.
I don't want to use mouse integration, because it doesn't work with a lot of FPSes (the games don't seem to understand the input and usually lock my view in place). What am I doing wrong? Please help.

Then simply disable mouse integration when you're playing and enable it when you don't. Menu Machine, Disable Mouse Integration. Or Host-I.TheNoseKnows wrote:I don't want to use mouse integration

But if I don't use mouse integration, then I have to use mouse capturing.

Yes, exactly. Ctrl-I enable, Ctrl-I disable. Not that difficult, eh?

Re: Mouse cursor not fully captured inside VM window
My problem isn't with mouse integration but mouse capturing:
Let me give some additional details: even when the host cursor is invisible, it still moves in the background. If the host cursor reaches the edge of the screen, the guest cursor stops moving. This means that a significant portion of the guest screen is unusable because I can never actually reach it with the guest cursor. Also, if the host cursor leaves the VM window, which it shouldn't be able to do because that defeats the whole point of mouse capturing and makes it an inferior version of mouse integration, I can no longer use the VM.I can't figure out how to permanently keep the mouse cursor within the VM window. As you might expect, this works for pretty much everyone else. So what crucial information did you leave out? What's special about your setup?
Can you reproduce the same behavior on a different computer?

Turns out the problem was Kaspersky Internet Security: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13696

An antivirus interferes with the mouse? Wow. Just wow.
