Hi,

I have a specific device that when plugged in to the VM aborts the VM abruptly. If I set the USB device as a USB filter before starting the VM the VM does not startup at all withe a black screen for a while and then aborts with no error.

Anyone having the same issue or can offer any advice?

I have attached the relevant logs.

Host OS: X Yosemite 64bit
Guest OS: windows 7 32 bit 1GB HDD with guest additions

Minimum information needed for assistance.

What is the device you are plugging in? Do you have PAE enabled for the guest?

I am using a pax pin pad device. I did not have PAE enabled but have just tried with that enabled and the same thing occurs.

It's possible the device won't work in a guest but I don't know that and I don't know why it would abort a VM. Perhaps someone else does.

If you create a ticket and provide a core dump from the crashed process (in addition to VBox.log), maybe it can be fixed.

I'm guessing that this is one specific device that's causing trouble, not every USB device, right? Which means we'll probably need to know more about that device, but currently it's hard to say what.

Does this device have some sort of custom driver installed in the guest OS, or does it just use one of the drivers shipped with Windows?

Yes, I have gotten other usb devices (including other terminal devices) to work just fine so it is only occurring for this one device.

I do have specific drivers to install for this device and doubt windows will find anything appropriate. I have not got to this step yet however as the abort happens before I can install any drivers via the Device manager.

Where is the link to create a ticket and how can I provide the core dump file?

That's the problem with USB -- just because 99 devices work doesn't mean the 100th will, too

Ah, OK, so the problem happens very early, before the guest OS loads a specific driver for the device. Interesting. There must be something pretty unusual about your device (the question is what).
