This is really annoying.
I use XPMode with VirtualBox and share files between host & client VM via SAMBA NAT networking.
When I diff/compare my C++ code projects (1.5GB worth of files), my Windows 7 host just blocks off VirtualBox... and my XP VM can't community anymore.
How is a developer meant to be able to develop under Windows XP in a VM environment, and be able to transfer/compare the code back to host machine?

Re: HELP: file diff/compare kills VirtualBox network
As far as I remember, XP mode is only compatible with Windows 7's native hypervisor and isn't compatible with Virtualbox. (Not saying that XP mode wouldn't run in Virtualbox, but there may be glitches, such as perhaps the one you may be having.) Additionally, isn't Samba a Linux arrangement? I doubt you'd need that to get two Windows PC's to communicate over a network. I certainly haven't... Thirdly, NAT is for getting onto the internet, roughly speaking, not really for setting up a local network, without lots of bending and breaking. More possibility for issues like the one you have.
You'll need to try a guest installed with a real Windows XP install disc (or ISO of one), not the XP mode thingy that was downloadable for Windows 7. And try Bridged network in Virtualbox, if you want the guest to access anything on your network, or Host-Only, if you just want your host & guest to talk to each other.
After you get a good XP installation, if you have any other issues, please let us know. And look here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=48476 for the info we'll need to help you.

Re: HELP: file diff/compare kills VirtualBox network
Apart from the possibility of glitches, it is simply not legal to run an XP Mode vm anywhere but in a Windows 7 OS. It is not individually licensed - it runs under the Windows 7 license as part of the Windows 7 installation. It cannot legally run on anything else, not even Windows 8 or 8.1 .

Re: HELP: file diff/compare kills VirtualBox network
As a guess I suspect VirtualBox is not blocking anything and the issue is an incorrectly set up network. That being said, if all you want to do is share files between a host and a guest you can just setup a VirtualBox shared folder.
