Getting Network to Work in XP Guest

I am new to VirtualBox. I installed Win XP (WindowsXPMode_en-us) that I downloaded from Microsoft as a guest into VirtualBox Installed into Win8.1 host. The WindowsXP guest wants to install drivers for the network card using the internet. I can't access the internet because the network card is not installed in the WinXP guest. I installed VBoxGuest Additions _4.3.24. The VirtualBox version is 4.3.24. The VirtualBox settings for network show Adapter 1 attached to NAT. The Advanced setting is set to PCnet-Fast III (Am79C973). Cable Connected is Checked.
How do I get this to work.
Jim

If you downloaded this
Windows XP Mode from Microsoft, the article states:
Windows XP Mode for Windows 7 makes it easy to install and run many of your productivity programs that run on Windows XP directly from a computer that runs Windows 7.
This is not Windows XP. It is
not meant to run within VirtualBox.

I followed the instructions from Lenny Zeltser
"how-to-get-a-windows-xp-mode-virtual-machine-on-windows/"
I followed his instructions but can't get the VMware tools to install.
I hope I can get this to work.
Thanks. Jim
