I am trying to install a software program

Hi, this is my first post & I am not to computer literate so please go easy on me.
Here is my problem: I want to install a software program on my laptop but when I try to install the program a message pops up telling me that the program is incompatible on a 64 bit OS which is what I have. (Windows 7/64)
I was told that if I install the virtualbox OS I can then install the program. So my question is, will I be able to install the program that is incompatible with my 64 bit OS if I first install virtualbox? thanks

domm, what software program are we talking about? Unless we know the details we cannot possibly answer.
PS. I cannot believe that a program would require some sort of virtualization substrate to make it work...

Hi socratis & thanks for your time. I think I already made a mistake because I am trying to install an Application (if that is different then software?) & the name of the Application is Net Term. I have the Application installed on an older laptop running Windows XP but it will not install on my newer Windows 7/64 bit laptop. I tried to add a couple of screenshots but they are too large. The popup message I get when trying to install the Application reads "........cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64 bit version of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64 bit Windows compatible version is available."

You need to either download the latest version of NetTerm (from 2012) which would be compatible with Windows 7 (64bit) or you would need to install VirtualBox, then create a Windows XP guest, then install NetTerm into the Windows XP guest. You could only use it while in XP if you choose the latter.

Thanks loukingjr.......The link I had for the NetTerm program was old I guess, but I googled NetTerm 2012 as per your suggestion & downloaded the application from CNET & then installed it onto my laptop & it works fine. Thanks again for your help.
