I'm running a virtual Win8.1 on my Ubuntu 14.10 system. I set up a shared folder, but it seems to only allow some 55mb of storage. How can I expand this?

VirtualBox does not restrict the size of the shared folder. post the guests log file ( as an attachment ) and check to make sure that you have plenty of free space on the hosts drive.

Please be aware that a network/shared folder is a software API, not a physical drive. One of the main distinctions is that a software API does not have a capacity, so checking on the capacity of a shared folder may not give you any useful information.

I'm trying to use Word 2013 from my Win8.1 virtual box and it's complaining when I try to save to the shared folder (on the Linux side). I've had to create another shared folder -- with a slightly different name because it wouldn't take a folder with the same name even though it was in a different hierarchy. In a different hierarchy? The share name assigned to a folder (or any other networked object) is not necessarily the same as the physical folder on the server. There is no hierarchy of share names - at least not in the sense I think you mean. (The only hierarchy is Network->Computer Name->Share name).

Are we talking about a true network share, or Guest Additions shared folders? The former may be restricted by some sort of quota configured on the PC. As far as I know there is no such restriction on GA shared folders - however that doesn't mean I recommend switching to them.
