[Problem] Almost half of Drive C disappeared

I downloaded andyroid, it's supposed to emulate android os. It comes with oracle virtual box.
I installed it all and somehow it gave an error. Suddenly my programs won't run so I restarted.
After restarting, the first thing I noticed is the wallpaper disappeared, and all items on my desktop disappeared.
I checked drive c and many files and programs are gone, and many programs that are still there have so many files missing.
My drive c which had 20gb of space remaining before, now have 50gb of space remaining. So at least 30gb worth of files disappeared.
I tried system restore but even that doesn't work. At this point I don't think it's possible to get back all that I lost.

But I need to recover at least some of the files on my desktop as they are very important, is it doable?
If not I will most likely just complete reformat my pc since I've been wanting to do that in awhile.

If you downloaded something other than the official distribution from this site then you need to get support from wherever you did download VirtualBox from. For all I know you downloaded some trojan.
