Problem : VM aborted with Win7 guest

Post by JulienGARDES »

Hello everybody,

I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Virtualbox 4.3.22 r8998236 with the extension pack 4.3.22r98236.
My computer is : Intel Xeon E3-1225 + 4Go RAM + 1To ROM, Motherboard ASRock Q87M vPro.

In my virtualbox, I installed Windows 7 pro 32 bit.

My problem : when I tried to plug a external hard disc, the windows system tried to install the drivers. During the process, the VM aborded after 2 minutes. The installation of the USB driver is not performed.

I tried to :
- dicrease/increase the RAM memory
- disabled VT-x acceleration
- install another version of the extension pack.
- modify the virtualisation manager in the BIOS.
=> nothing works.

Thank you for a solution.

Right click the VM in the GUI. Select "Show Log". Save "VBox.log" to a file. Compress that file and attach it to a message here. Make sure the VM is fully shut down before taking a log.

I don't actually see any sign of an error or abort in the provided log. All I see in the log is...
VBox.log wrote: 01:06:13.968313 Guest requests the VM to be turned off
01:06:13.968344 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'POWERING_OFF'.
Which, as far as I know, indicates that the VM window close button was clicked and then confirmed.

See the first post in the Discuss the 4.3.22 release topic. I suggest that you download the 4.3.23 test build and see if that works any better for you.

Also, I would reduce the RAM allocation for this VM to 1024MB, since your host can't easily afford to dedicate 1800MB to a VM. On the other hand I would increase the display RAM allocation to 48MB.
