No network connection (2)

Post by DavidA2015 »

Hi

This is a follow-on from my thread 'No network connection' below, which has been locked.

I downloaded and installed VBox 4.3.23-98406 as suggested and there is an improvement. The network icon in the top rh corner no longer has a cross and I see:

Code: Select all

$ ifconfig -a
eth1      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 08:00:27:7D:32:8C
          inet addr:192.168.56.102  Bcast:192.168.56.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::a00:27ff:fe7d:328c/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:51 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:15 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:5854 (5.7 KiB)  TX bytes:1992 (1.9 KiB)

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:476 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:476 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:39852 (38.9 KiB)  TX bytes:39852 (38.9 KiB)
But I still see:

Code: Select all

$ ping 8.8.8.8
connect: Network is unreachable
I see these settings on the WIndows host (ipconfig):

Code: Select all

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :

Any thoughts please?

@DavidA2015: You don't provide a VM log file, so it's hard to tell, but from what I can see, you use host-only in the VM config. This will not give you any connection except to the host (hence, the host-only).
Use NAT, Bridged or NAT Network for internet.
