Let me begin by saying I have read the 4.3.22 discussion and all I can find on the topic of "Regarding the Shared Folders problem with Windows Guests: this seems to be a GAs snafu."

Long time user of virtualbox. My Win 7 guest on virtualbox 4.3.22 (with GA 4.3.22) on my OSX Yosemite BSOD'ed and I have reinstalled, on a completely new virtualbox 4.3.22, Win 7 64. I added GA 4.3.22 and then tried to share a device. Like others, it was visible in shared folders on my vb GUI, but the vboxsvr folder on my guest was empty.

I updated to GA 4.3.23 but the problem persisted. I then downgraded from vb 4.3.22 back to 4.3.20 (and installed GA 4.3.20) and I still cannot see my shared device in vboxsvr on my guest.

Is there anything that someone can suggest, please?

Problem solved, but don't ask me how! I reinstalled everything a few times, rebooted everything a few times and am now up and running, well, with vb4.3.22 and GA4.3.23.
