Hi,
i'm trying to use USB device composed by 2 device in 1. This device is a USB drive with a smart card reader inside. I haven't any problem mounting USB drive from mac to Win 7 Pro 64bit (Guest OS) on MAC OS X 10.10 (HOST OS). When I try to attach smart card reader I receive this error:
-----------------------------
Failed to attach the USB device Bit4id Key4 [0100] to the virtual machine MACHINENAME.
USB device 'Bit4id Key4' with UUID {910cbc74-83ab-4341-aafe-2137fa19cbdf} is in use by someone else.
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: HostUSBDevice
Interface: IHostUSBDevice {173b4b44-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}
Callee: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}
----------------------------
I've tried to filter device by USB filter, but I receive same error message by Host OS.
Any suggest to solve this problem? thanks
Francesco

Re: Failed to attach the USB device
Is it a USB 3.0 device because VirtualBox does not support USB 3.0. You might be able to access a card reader using a shared folder.

Re: Failed to attach the USB device
Just so it's clear, this device is a USB hard drive with an included smart card reader?
If so, I can only hazard a guess as to how to get it working. You would have to have a smart card inserted in it before it's attached to a guest.

Re: Failed to attach the USB device
Yes, I looked it up. Does it come with drivers for the Mac you have to install?
Seeing this is a security device, getting it to work in a virtual machine could be problematic.

I've read a guide to use smart card reader under mac and I download form Italian certification authority (this reader is used by lawyers to sign documents) a realtek pkg. And I used a personalized software to test the smart card.loukingjr wrote:Yes, I looked it up. Does it come with drivers for the Mac you have to install?

Re: Failed to attach the USB device
In theory, if you created a USB filter for the device, and you don't plug it in until your Windows guest is open, the guest should capture the device. If there is a guide for using it with Windows you might want to take a look at that.
Other than that, I don't know but perhaps someone else might.
