Windows2012R2 VHD fails to start after Snapshot taken

I have Windows2012 R2 VHD trial installed under VBox 4.3.20 and it was working fine UNTIL I created a snapshot while the 2012 system was powered down. Now when I attempt to start it up I get the following error:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Win2012R2 via VHD.
No error info.
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ProgressProxy
Interface: IProgress {c20238e4-3221-4d3f-8891-81ce92d9f913}
The hard drive in settings refers to UUID not matching to the differential disk created for the snapshot. There is no way that I can see to actually copy this information into the windows clipboard.
I tried deleting the snapshot but was unable to however that process allowed me to copy the following error information:
Failed to delete the snapshot Before Windows Updates of the virtual machine Win2012R2 via VHD.
Parent UUID {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} of the medium 'F:\.VirtualBox\Machines\Win2012R2 via VHD\Snapshots\{8d80a186-eda3-460a-90a6-1f056b60095f}.vhd' does not match UUID {883c6053-e08b-49f4-be8c-44358ca90ef9} of its parent medium stored in the media registry ('C:\Users\gregg/.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml').
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Medium
Interface: IMedium {05f2bbb6-a3a6-4fb9-9b49-6d0dda7142ac
There is a VirtualBox.xml and a VirtualBox.xml-prev file in the users .virtualbox directory
Is this error caused because I foolishly created a snapshot of what was a VHD file?
