Hello all. Hope everyone's day is off to a great start. I am new to Virtual Box and I am currently trying to load Gentoo Linux (i686) minimal. I continue to get an Application Error stating exception Breakpoint.

0x80000003 occurred in the application at location oxeb1ad8e5

I can reload and each time the Breakpoint is at a different location. I am not certain if it is the version of Linux I'm using...it's a ISO from Gentoo.

My only purpose besides getting re accustomed to Linux is to have two environments (I intend to clone the VB once its running) running flash (older versions) so that I can access Cisco access gear in my network.

I have tried running 32bit OS but the craptop that work supplies apparently is NOT powerful enough. Virtual Box states when I try to load a 32 bit OS that I must run i686.

If someone can point me to a direction to determine why I am getting the error or a lightweight OS that will run older versions of Java?

I am running VB on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit
Intel Core i5 / M 560 2.67GHZ

You should have less trouble running a 32bit guest on an older laptop. You have to select the correct 32bit template and .iso to install it however.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to get linuxmint-13-cinnamon running. Now I'm banging my head on getting an older version of Java "j2sdk-1_3_1_14" installed. Not able to locate in the download repository to an update via terminal. Nor a compatible PPA address to the file. I have been downloading the .sh, .rpm and .bin files from Oracle. - wont let me post the link as I am a new member under 1 day. But I am getting the official download from Oracle Java Downloads - Java SE 1.3.

When I try to install the .bin files it tells me that the download is corrupted. Don't see how as it came directly from Oracle (I suspect its because its outdated vs the OS linuxmint I have running). And the .tar.z I can not find an .install, only a postinstall.

I admit I am a newb to Linux. It has been several years since I messed with it and didn't get very involved then. Any education/pointers is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know of a distro or virtualbox that can be downloaded? I am looking for the ability to run old java. It is required to access older pieces of hardware remotely in my network. I am not interested in using an older laptop as I will just continue using RDP into my box upstairs. I want to get away from using RDP as that box is extremely slow.

I know this is not the right place for this post if Administrator can please now move the thread.

YW. If you know the year the version of Java you want to use came out you might be able to find a distro that old. Most Linux distros didn't come with Java pre-installed.

I would trust the corrupt issue if it is being given to you. Download corruption does occur, that's why they post the md5 checksums so you can verify that it is not corrupt.
