Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
I am new to using virtual box.
After installing and creating a new machine, I am trying to load Windows 8 Enterprise.
When I start up the Vmachine, the windows icon loads and then I get an error.
Whats weird is that the on screen error has displayed 2 different things.
"Your PC needs to restart
Plea"
or
"Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.
Er"
Attached is the log file.
Any help is appreciated.

Trying to install Windows 8 Enterprise on the Vmachine.
Would that issue apply to me?

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
actually it applies to just about anyone running a Windows host. Still looking at log but so far…
You can try uninstalling VB 4.3.20 and installing VB 4.3.12.
Code: Select all

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
no problem. Windows is not my strong suit. You also have this btw…
You assigned 5GB to your guest, might want to try 2GB.
Also make sure Hyper-V is disabled.
Code: Select all

00:00:42.115044 !!

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
Ok with 4.3.12 it still has the issue but the message is more complete...
"You PC needs to restart.
Please hold down power button.
Error code: 0x000000C4
Parameters:
0X0000000000000091
0x000000000"

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
well it's definitely not the security issue then.
Try reducing the guest RAM and make sure Hyper-V is disabled.

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
I don't know anything about Win8 Enterprise, but if it's based on Windows 8.1 then you need to use the Win 8.1 (64bit) template.
I'd aso try with a less strenuous RAM requirement. Try, say, 2GB.

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
I am not running windows pro so there isn't Hyper-V installed....
Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
Are you saying if the host is running on 8.1 that I have to setup the VM to run on the 8.1 template? I was trying just the standard Windows 8 template...mpack wrote:I don't know anything about Win8 Enterprise, but if it's based on Windows 8.1 then you need to use the Win 8.1 (64bit) template.

Re: Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.
Wow. That actually fixed the issue.
I was following instructions to install the OS on Virtual Box specifically. It said select windows 8 not 8.1....
Now that I have selected 8.1, it is installing...
Thanks both of you for the help!!!
