Installing Windows 8 Enterpise.

Post by SpecialK »

I am new to using virtual box.

After installing and creating a new machine, I am trying to load Windows 8 Enterprise.
When I start up the Vmachine, the windows icon loads and then I get an error.
Whats weird is that the on screen error has displayed 2 different things.

"Your PC needs to restart
Plea"
or
"Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.
Er"

Attached is the log file.
Any help is appreciated.

Most likely it's because of this: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64777
but waiting for your log file.

Actually running Windows 8.1 64 bit on my machine.

Trying to install Windows 8 Enterprise on the Vmachine.

actually it applies to just about anyone running a Windows host. Still looking at log but so far…

Code: Select all

00:00:43.121552 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'GURU_MEDITATION'.
00:04:21.430487 ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_INVALID_VM_STATE (0x80bb0002) aIID={8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6} aComponent={Console} aText={Invalid machine state GuruMeditation when checking if the guest entered the ACPI mode)}, preserve=false
00:04:25.571203 Console::powerDown(): A request to power off the VM has been issued (mMachineState=Stopping, InUninit=0)
You can try uninstalling VB 4.3.20 and installing VB 4.3.12.

Down loading 4.3.12 now. Let me know if you see anything else.

And thanks a ton for helping me...

no problem. Windows is not my strong suit. You also have this btw…

Code: Select all

00:00:42.115044 !! Guru Meditation 1155 (VINF_EM_TRIPLE_FAULT)
00:00:42.115044 !!
00:00:42.115044 !! Skipping ring-0 registers and stack, rcErr=VINF_EM_TRIPLE_FAULT
00:00:42.115045 !!
00:00:42.115045 !! {mappings, <NULL>}
00:00:42.115045 !!
00:00:42.115045
00:00:42.115045 The mappings are DISABLED.
00:00:42.115045 00000000fd800000 - 00000000febfffff Hypervisor Memory Area
00:00:42.115045 00000000fec00000 - 00000000ffbfffff Above 4GB Base RAM
You assigned 5GB to your guest, might want to try 2GB.
Also make sure Hyper-V is disabled.

Ok with 4.3.12 it still has the issue but the message is more complete...

"You PC needs to restart.
Please hold down power button.
Error code: 0x000000C4
Parameters:
0X0000000000000091
0x000000000"

well it's definitely not the security issue then.

Try reducing the guest RAM and make sure Hyper-V is disabled.

I don't know that you have Hyper-V enabled or disabled but here is some info how to find out.

I don't know anything about Win8 Enterprise, but if it's based on Windows 8.1 then you need to use the Win 8.1 (64bit) template.

I'd aso try with a less strenuous RAM requirement. Try, say, 2GB.

Are you saying if the host is running on 8.1 that I have to setup the VM to run on the 8.1 template? I was trying just the standard Windows 8 template...

Wow. That actually fixed the issue.

I was following instructions to install the OS on Virtual Box specifically. It said select windows 8 not 8.1....

Now that I have selected 8.1, it is installing...

Thanks both of you for the help!!!
