VB install fails on OS X 10.10.1 - "image data corrupted"

Post by Stanley Krute »

Hello

I went to the downloads page. Downloaded the file VirtualBox-4.3.20-96996-OSX.dmg No seeming problems during the download. The file size is 114,072,022 bytes.

When I try to run it, I get a message "The following disk images couldn't be opened". It then lists the file, and gives the reason "image data corrupted".

I did two more downloads. Each yielded the exact same size file. Each failed in the exact same way.

This is on an iMac Retina 27" system running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

Any ideas ??

Data point : I downloaded and tried the previous binary, using the install file VirtualBox-4.3.18-96516-OSX.dmg

Installed just fine.

So I'm thinking that the 4.3.20 install file is corrupt on your server.

Data point: after getting 4.3.18 installed, on startup it prompted me to update to 4.3.20. I followed the link, and it downloaded a file with the exact same name as the one that prompted this thread, clocking in at the exact same size in bytes (114,072,022).

No data corruption this time (4th download, albeit via a slightly different route). Installed just fine.

For fun, I tried the download again from the official download page. Worked just fine. No corruption.

Okay, so this thread now seems moot. Poltergeists/gremlins, now gone.
