Drive encryption

Hi all,
Firstly I'm new on this forum so I hope this post is in the correct place ( if not please advise), secondly my question relates to drive encryption within a virtualbox VM which I'm reasonably sure has already been asked ( but I haven't seen anything on a search), my specifics.
I have a windows host O.S. in which I've installed Virtualbox 4.3.20 ( and expansion pack), I've then used this to install a "default" installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit which successfully installed and runs as expected. This "default" installation utilises a 100Mb hidden system partition and a primary partition which is used for the actual windows installation. I wanted to encrypt my VM drive using Diskcryptor so I installed diskcryptor within the Vm and encrypted the VM successfully, I then rebooted the VM BUT the Windows 7 VM failed to load . I can see the Windows 7 splash screen thus indicating that the bootloader has successfully found and attempted to launch the Windows 7 O.S. However it fails "mid-launch".I have executed a number of alternative tests to try and diagnose the issue and they are,
I have repeated the same installation as above EXCEPT instead of the default installation on 2 partitions I have used only one partition ( to contain the system partition & windows installation files). This windows installation successfully installs, loads & runs BUT fails once the drive is encrypted with Diskcryptor.
I have repeated the first procedure above on VMware workstation , it worked as expected ( including Diskcryptor).
I replaced the VM guest O.S from Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with an Windows XP SP3 installation AND successfully encrypted the drive with Diskcyptor. Once encrypted this Win XP VM successfully loaded and ran as expected.
I'd prefer not to use the bitlocker app available within Windows 7 Ultimate
Can anybody provide any assistance as to why the windows 7 installation fails to work.
Thanks in Advance..
