On the home page of VirtualBox Windows Server 2003 is listed but I see comments about Server 2008.
Is Server 2008 supported? It will only be run in VirtualBox on another computer if the main Server 2008 fails and we have to restore the backup to this machine as a mounted virutual machine (via Storage Craft Shadow Protect software).
Actually - in a video how-to from Storage Craft - virtualbox is used to show how to get the virtual 2003 server back up and running. And they do suggest getting and paying for the virtualbox software. However we are running 2008 server.
If it will run Server 2008r2:
My game plan - put virtualbox on a Windows 7 ultimate, i7, 8 core, 16gb memory computer. Have this as my fail over machine to mount the backup image. But untested.
If virtualbox will not run Server 2008r2:
other suggestions?
Thanks for the info.

Re: VirtualBox and Server 2008
I can't see any problems. When you do the install, check that the vm you create uses the correct machine profile (2008 32 or 64 as required).
I have never had any problems with Windows Server on VirtualBox and I think I have run most of them at some time.

Re: VirtualBox and Server 2008
Excellent. And actually this was confirmed when I watched another video demonstration that showed the backup restore to the VirutualBox installation and then the Windows Server 2008R2 environment startup login screen appear. That was great affirmation that what we are trying to do should work. We will put this in the sandbox this week. Thanks for the answer.
